Call to Repeal Minnesota’s Transport Law After School Shooting

In Washington, a prominent House Republican has urged the repeal of Minnesota’s “transport” law in light of a tragic shooting that targeted students at Catholic schools in the state. This statement follows a deadly incident that occurred on Wednesday.

“We tried to respect everyone involved. We really did. But it’s crucial to recognize that there are significant mental health challenges being intensified by messages from leaders like Tim Walz and his supporters,” the Republican emphasized.

“They should get rid of this law immediately, but I doubt that will happen,” he continued. “They’ve fostered confusion. This young man has clearly been struggling. Instead of getting the help he needed, he’s been made to suffer even more.”

The law in question, enacted by Governor Tim Walz, prevents law enforcement from other states from issuing subpoenas or arrest warrants related to individuals who travel to Minnesota for gender-affirming care.

Critics argue that the legislation is written too broadly, potentially putting parents at risk of losing custody of their children if they oppose the transition process.

On Wednesday, Robin Westman, now known as Robert Westman, committed a heartbreaking act, killing two children at a Catholic school and injuring 17 others, including 14 students.

The Republican lawmaker also condemned the backlash faced by those who sought solace through prayer during this tragedy.

“Contrary to what the mayor of Minneapolis is saying,” Emmer remarked, taking aim at Mayor Jacob Frey.

He further stated, “To imply that now is not the time for thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families is wildly inappropriate, especially from a young, inexperienced mayor.”
