House Homeland Security Committee chair to visit site of attempted Trump assassination

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) Recent assassination attempts According to a report released to the media by the committee on Saturday, former President Trump had this to say about the matter:

“This committee continues to seek answers [Department of Homeland Security] “We will hold the U.S. Marshals Service and the Secret Service accountable for the security failures that led to the near-assassination attempt on former President Trump and the tragic shooting death of Corey Comperatore,” Greene said in the recommendation. Comperatore, referring to the man who was shot and killed, “will visit the scene on Monday morning to more fully investigate how this near-assassination occurred.”

Greene, along with 10 other members of the committee, will visit the site in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to the recommendation.

Trump was shot in the ear during the shooting and was seen with a bandage around his ear at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week.

The Secret Service has come under intense scrutiny following the shooting, with some questioning how the gunman was able to gain access to a rooftop in clear view of Trump.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday called for the appointment of new leadership for the Secret Service.

“Last week’s near assassination attempt on former President Trump was a grave attack on American democracy,” McConnell said in a post on social platform X. “The public deserves accountability and accountability, and new leadership at the Secret Service will be an important step in that direction.”

“The political discourse in this country has become very heated,” President Biden said in the Oval Office the day after the shooting.

“It’s time for calm,” Biden said in his speech. “This puts a heavy burden on all of us that we must never, no matter how strong our beliefs may be, ever descend into violence.”
