House Judiciary Claims FBI's 'Arctic Frost' Investigation May Have Aimed at More Than 150 Republicans

House Judiciary Committee Reveals FBI’s Broad Investigation into Republican Officials

The House Judiciary Committee announced on Tuesday that the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” investigation may have targeted over 150 Republican officials and their associates.

A new document released by the committee indicates that during the Biden administration, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI were looking into individuals connected to Trump. Almost 200 pages of records shed light on this extensive inquiry, which reportedly began under FBI Director Chris Wray and continued under Special Counsel Jack Smith, overseen by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The committee, chaired by Republican Rep. Jim Jordan from Ohio, suspects that “45 individuals” are potential investigation targets. This list includes former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry, former North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Trump Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark, and ex-Trump lawyer John Eastman.

A May 2022 FBI email disclosed that officials from the Washington field office thanked various field offices for their help related to Arctic Frost. Another email indicated that everything connected to the inquiry was classified within FBI systems.

Additional documents reveal that the Arctic Frost team requested around $16,600 from the DOJ’s Office of Public Corruption for travel expenses to conduct more than 40 interviews, serve subpoenas, and execute multiple search warrants. They aimed to interview several Republican officials across states like Arizona, Virginia, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico.

The Republican-led committee also claimed that another 111 people, including Chief of Staff Dan Scavino and Senior Advisor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro, might also be investigated.

Reports indicate that the FBI used specific tags for insider threats during the investigation, such as “FRAUD CORRUPT” and “CORRUPT.” These documents also included lists of Republican activists, public servants, and alleged voters supposedly linked to the events of the 2020 election.

Evidence shared by Senator Chuck Grassley appeared to suggest that FBI officials, including Wray and Garland, authorized the Arctic Frost investigation focusing on President Trump’s actions related to the Capitol riot.

Emails from the Senate Judiciary Committee further revealed that the Biden White House Office of Counsel and certain FBI agents were working together to obtain cellphones belonging to Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence. According to a separate committee press release from September, the Arctic Frost investigation indeed targeted many Republican officials and organizations.
