Leaders of the House Judiciary Committee are investigating security for Supreme Court justices in the wake of an assassination attempt on July 13, 2024, at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that left former President Donald Trump on the brink of death.
In a press release on Tuesday, the committee Said “We will launch an investigation into the Department of Justice.” [DOJ] “The committee is making the safety of the Supreme Court justices and the safety of the attorney general its number one priority,” he said, noting that committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has announced his investigation and hopes to report back to the committee by Aug. 6.
In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Jordan wrote: I have written:
On July 13, 2024, all of our nation was shocked by the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump during his presidential campaign. The attack left one innocent American dead and several others injured. In light of the inflammatory rhetoric recently directed at other federal employees, particularly those on our nation’s highest court, I am writing to gain an understanding of the steps the Department of Justice has taken to ensure the safety of all Supreme Court justices.
