Rep. Lisa McClain told Fox News Digital that some House members are “unhappy” with changes to the investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Trump.
McClain, who sits on several committees including the Oversight and Accountability Committee and the Armed Services Committee, said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has taken over the investigation, raising concerns among lawmakers.
The U.S. Secret Service, which is investigating the shooting, falls under the Department of Homeland Security.
“They’re very frustrated, and that’s probably an understatement,” McClain said at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. “There was an assassination attempt on a leading candidate. We don’t have a lot of answers. There’s no transparency. It’s being transferred from the Secret Service to the Department of Homeland Security. Why?”

McClain said Mayorkas’ involvement in the investigation is also a concern, given the opposition from many Republicans over the handling of the southern border.
“We have a gentleman who is saying the border is secure, even though millions of illegal immigrants are pouring across the border,” she said. “We’re not very optimistic, we’re not very hopeful.”

The Secret Service has come under intense scrutiny since the gunman shot Trump from outside the security perimeter, and it and local authorities have accused each other of security lapses.
“While we have a shared area of responsibility at this particular facility, the Secret Service is entirely responsible for the design, implementation and operation of the facility,” Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said in an interview with CNN.
McClain said the coach needs to take responsibility for what happened.

“The Secret Service needs to publicly say, ‘Hey, this is my responsibility. This is my department. I’m the leader. I’m responsible. I’m going to investigate this,'” McClain said. “We need to take this seriously and get to the bottom of it.”
