House Passes CR in Huge Step Forward for Trump Agenda

President Donald Trump is home on the way to solidify the first step on his government spending agenda.

The House passed a continuing resolution (CR) on Tuesday, continuing several changes Republicans prefer until the end of the September 30th fiscal year.

Voting for a relatively clean CR followed a successful procedural vote early in the afternoon, paving the way for passing.

The final tally was between 217 and 213. Republican Rep. Thomas Massey (R-KY) opposed the law. Rep. Jared Golden (D-Me) was the only Democrat to cross the aisle.

Conservatives have long hated CRS, but Trump not only won them, but also recruited them to publicly defend the law. Trump's commitment to enacting spending cuts, revealed by Elon Musk and the Government Efficiency (DOGE), made a difference.

The CR has frozen current spending until the end of the fiscal year and has made several changes, including an additional $485 million for immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) to continue Trump's border security efforts.

Democrats ostensibly preferred short-term CR to continue working on each of the 12 budget bills that constitute discretionary spending approved by Congress.

Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and other high-ranking Trump officials were personally working Republican House members on bills that are now going to the Senate.

Senator Randpole (R-KY) announced he would oppose the measure. This means at least eight Democrats must support the CR to prevent shutdowns before Friday's deadline.

Once the fight to keep the government open is complete, Trump and his administration can train them with a focus on ongoing work to find waste, fraud and abuse.
