Waltz served 24 years in the Minnesota National Guard, including with the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery, and retired shortly before his unit was deployed to Iraq. Though he never saw combat, he said in a video shared by the Harris-Waltz campaign that he carried a weapon “during a war.”
Governor Tim WaltzI was in the Army for 25 years and I hunt. I’ve voted for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can study the impact of gun violence. We can do war weapons. pic.twitter.com/3IVaXi2RP2

He has also come under sharp criticism from Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) and Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance for not leading his own troops into Iraq. Cotton, a two-combat Army veteran, said Walz “sent his troops to Iraq without me.”
That sentiment echoes that of two Army command sergeants who wrote in a 2018 letter published in the West Central Tribune that when Waltz retired on May 16, 2005, “the 1-125th Field Artillery Battalion and its Soldiers were left in limbo without a senior NCO as the battalion prepared for war.”
Waltz especially Submitted In February 2005, he ran for Congress and the unit Notified He hinted at a possible deployment in March 2005. But the warning came two months before he was due to retire.

It’s crazy that Kamala picked a running mate who lied about her military service. Either her vetting process, led by Eric Holder, was very weak or she just doesn’t care…or both!
