House Republicans Jordan and Roy call for Antifa records from nonprofit organizations

House Republicans Demand Documents from Liberal Advocacy Groups Linked to Antifa

As the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on left-wing extremism, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Constitution Subcommittee Chairman Chip Roy (R-Texas) are pressuring nonprofit liberal advocacy organizations to submit documents regarding their alleged connections to Antifa.

In a letter acquired by Fox News Digital, the Republican representatives requested communications, financial statements, and internal guidelines from the Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ) and the Open Society Foundations, focusing on groups associated with Refuse Fascism and others purportedly linked to Antifa. President Trump has characterized Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization earlier this year.

The correspondence references reports that AFGJ “serves as a financial supporter of Antifa.” It also highlights recent funding provided to Refuse Fascism, which protested in Washington, D.C., marking the first anniversary of Trump’s election.

Refuse Fascism has been involved in numerous demonstrations related to Antifa over the last few years.

The letter states, “The violence of Antifa left-wing extremists cannot be justified. AFGJ is directly accountable for the activities conducted by its projects and the utilization of funds raised for these projects.”

In response, the Refuse Fascism Leadership Committee informed Fox News Digital that their mission promotes nonviolent actions through their leadership.

Additionally, lawmakers expressed apprehension regarding AFGJ’s support for Samidoun. The Treasury Department has denounced it as a “sham charity” linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is recognized as a terrorist organization in the U.S.

AFGJ has previously faced intense criticism for allegedly aiding and abetting extremist activities. In 2020, it reportedly received $250,000 from the Foundation for the Advancement of Open Societies (FPOS) for backing initiatives aligned with Palestinian rights, contributing to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

The committee’s letter also pointed out that, according to a recent report from the Capital Research Center, the Open Society Foundations has allocated over $80 million since 2016 to organizations endorsing extremist violence. Specifically, they noted a donation of “at least $2 million” to the Sunrise Movement, which has close affiliations with Antifa.

Concerns about AFGJ’s connections to anti-Israel protests, particularly following the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas, prompted Republican House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith last month to urge the IRS to withdraw AFGJ’s tax-exempt status.

Smith emphasized the importance of tax-exempt organizations adhering to their announced purposes, especially considering the history of violence linked to their activities.

The letter demands AFGJ and the Open Society Foundations to preserve internal records from January 1, 2017, which includes details on financial sponsorships, grants, and any awareness of illicit activities by associated groups.

Critics have long connected Soros’ network to Antifa violence in the U.S., alleging that it coordinates efforts across various cities and exploits vulnerable individuals to participate in riots.

Antifa, which identifies itself as an “anti-fascist” movement, has frequently mobilized during significant protests and riots, particularly noted during the unrest in 2020.

Despite evidence of violence connected to Antifa, some Democratic lawmakers and liberal commentators continue to assert that the group doesn’t exist, echoing sentiments from 2020 when the protests escalated post-George Floyd’s death.

For instance, Democratic Congressman Jerry Nadler previously dismissed Antifa as a “myth,” and media figures have made similar comments downplaying its existence.

In the Trump administration, then-FBI director Chris Wray characterized Antifa as more of a “movement and an ideology” rather than a formal organization.

The White House has described Antifa as a “radical terrorist organization” responsible for inciting violence across American communities for an extended period.

Press Secretary Abigail Jackson stated that the administration remains committed to addressing Antifa’s violence decisively.
