House Republicans prevent GENIUS Act with Epstein documents amendment, as MTG claims it would let Democrats ‘dominate House floor’

House Votes Against GENIUS Act Debate

The House recently rejected a procedural rule intended to facilitate debate and a vote on the GENIUS Act, which includes two adjoining crypto bills: the CLARITY Act and the Anti‑CBDC Surveillance State Act, alongside the Defense Appropriations bill.

A motion to advance the GENIUS Act and related legislation failed, with a vote count of 223 to 196. This setback halted floor discussions on the act. It’s worth noting that, prior to this, the Jeffrey Epstein amendment had already been removed after being blocked in committee the previous night.

A faction of hard-line Republicans, including figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tim Burchett, voiced objections to moving forward with the GENIUS Act without implementing a prohibition on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). This was highlighted as a priority linked to a January executive order from Trump, as noted by ABC News.

On the other hand, Democrats, led by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), sought to attach an amendment to the procedural resolution for the GENIUS Act and other bills, aiming to force the DOJ to release all documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. This amendment was also voted down in the Rules Committee, with a close tally of 6–5.

The proposed Epstein amendment sought to compel Attorney General Pam Bondi and the DOJ to preserve and publicly disclose all records related to Epstein’s investigations and incarcerations, including his alleged “client list,” within 30 days.

“The Speaker’s Rules Committee voted to block my amendment demanding the full release of Epstein files while safeguarding victims’ identities. They essentially voted to protect powerful men who abused young women,” Khanna remarked.

Despite Khanna pushing for the release of the documents, social media users from both sides have raised questions about why he didn’t make similar demands when Biden was president and why the amendment was inserted into a cryptocurrency-focused bill.

The GENIUS Act, short for Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act, represents a significant bipartisan effort to regulate U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins and connect crypto with traditional financial systems.

The Epstein amendment didn’t gain traction in the House Rules Committee, with Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) being the only GOP member to support it.

“Today, we will have our first vote regarding the Epstein release. I plan to address the House floor. We will persist until these files are revealed,” tweeted Rep. Ro Khanna.

The seven GOP representatives who opposed releasing the Epstein files included: Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), Michelle Fischbach (R-Minn.), Erin Houchin (R-Ind.), Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.), Austin Scott (R-Ga.), Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), and Brian Jack (R-Ga.).

Khanna also led a movement for another vote “on the Epstein release” on the House floor, but again faced unanimous opposition from Republicans.

As discussions unfolded, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) claimed the narrative was misleading, asserting that it was merely a “procedural vote.”

“It was a procedural vote called a PQ, focused on prior questions. If the Democrats had won, they could have taken control of the House floor, potentially pushing through items like impeachment articles against President Trump,” Greene explained.

The way Epstein’s files have been handled during the Trump administration is now causing a rift among his supporters, who are calling for greater transparency following the end of the investigation.

Conservative talk show host Matt Walsh expressed Monday that many Americans feel dissatisfied with the information provided so far.

“We shouldn’t be satisfied—it has been contradictory and frankly insulting to our intelligence. We cannot simply move on; we seek justice,” Walsh stated.

“Who else was in those unsettling videos? We want them brought forth to answer for their actions, displayed in their shame. We will not stop until we get justice.”

Walsh’s commentary was linked to allegations regarding how Epstein used his wealth to exploit children for trafficking to powerful individuals on his private island.

Numerous reports, including from journalist Vicky Ward, suggest Epstein had ties to intelligence agencies. Allegations also surround Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, whose father, Robert Maxwell, has been rumored to have worked with various intelligence agencies.

However, these claims remain unverified by other officials linked to intelligence organizations.

Epstein, who passed away, had previously accepted a controversial plea deal in 2008 after being convicted of procuring a minor for prostitution. This allowed him only a brief prison term with work release privileges.

Further complicating the narrative, a 2024 report revealed allegations from a woman, referred to as “Jane Doe 200,” who claimed Epstein raped her in 2001 and that he had previously claimed to be affiliated with intelligence agencies.

Robert Maxwell, a British media tycoon, has long been suspected of espionage ties, a belief that intensified after his mysterious passing in 1991. His funeral was notably attended by several former Israeli intelligence figures, which raised eyebrows regarding the depths of his alleged connections.

The ongoing conversations surrounding Epstein and the broader implications of these connections remain unsettling to many, as they await further revelations.

As this narrative continues to evolve, it echoes deeper issues of accountability and justice within elite circles. The quest for transparency over Epstein’s operations remains a focal point for many.
