Republicans Set Fundraising Records Ahead of Midterms

House Republicans are breaking fundraising records as they prepare to defend their slim majority in the upcoming midterm elections in November.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), responsible for House Republican campaigns, announced on Friday that last year’s fundraising was exceptionally strong, notably with contributions from House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Majority Leader Tom Emmer.

This fundraising boost is crucial as Republicans navigate a challenging political landscape. With inflation continuing to rise, President Trump’s approval ratings have taken a hit. Additionally, they are up against the usual political challenges that come during midterm elections.

Interestingly, the political climate has been further complicated due to recent events. This month, federal enforcement officers shot and killed two Americans who were protesting the government’s aggressive stance on illegal immigration in Minnesota.

On the other hand, Democrats seem to be capitalizing on the momentum from last year’s successes. After recovering from setbacks in 2024, winning just three additional House seats in the midterms could hand them the majority.

NRCC’s Record Fundraising Highlights

The NRCC reported that it raised $117.2 million last year—an all-time high for a non-election year, excluding 2021 when Democrats were in power. Furthermore, Johnson’s efforts alone resulted in over $82 million for House Republicans, marking the highest amount ever collected by a House Speaker in a single year.

Scalise’s fundraising also stood out, bringing in $35.5 million, while Emmer contributed an impressive nearly $30 million. The top two outside political groups cooperating with House Republicans, the Congressional Leadership Fund and American Action Network, amassed a remarkable total of $136 million.

According to NRCC spokesperson Mike Marinella, “House Republicans are building an unprecedented war chest because voters are buying what we’re selling. We’re focused on growing our majority, and our fundraising numbers indicate we have the resources to win across the nation.”

The rival Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has not yet shared its fourth-quarter fundraising details. DCCC spokesperson Justin Chelmol, however, expressed skepticism, stating, “no amount of money can save this desperate, directionless, extreme House Republican majority.”
