House Speaker Johnson slams White House’s silence on Olympics opening ceremony controversy: ‘An endorsement’

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, on Tuesday slammed the White House for failing to address a controversial skit at the Olympic opening ceremony in which drag queens appeared to re-enact the Last Supper between Jesus and his disciples.

“The White House has had multiple opportunities to condemn the Olympic Games’ shameful mockery of the Last Supper, but they have refused,” Johnson said in a post on X. “Their silence should be taken as support. The 200 million+ Christians in the United States should take note.”

At a White House press briefing on Tuesday, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to answer questions about Biden’s take on the performance.

“Nothing. I’m glad you asked, but I don’t have anything to share,” Jean-Pierre said, shrugging and smiling.

When reporters suggested that Christians were uncomfortable with the opening act, Jean-Pierre chuckled and continued to avoid answering Biden’s position on the performance.

“I just answered your question. I have nothing else to add,” Jean-Pierre said with a laugh.

Biden, who has often spoken about his Catholic faith, has yet to comment on the incident.

When asked about the opening ceremony and the backlash from the locals, Religious communities, Neither Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris’ offices responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Speaking immediately after the performance, Johnson said it was an attack on Christian values.

“Last night’s mockery of ‘The Last Supper’ is shocking and offensive to Christians around the world who watched the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony,” Johnson said in an earlier Twitter post to X. “The battle against our faith and traditional values ​​is now unending, but we know that truth and virtue will always triumph.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis echoed Johnson’s comments and criticized the performance.

“Mocked Christians at the Olympic Opening Ceremony is a symbol of cultural decline,” DeSantis wrote.
