A police officer in Texas has been dismissed after making racist remarks in a viral video on social media.
The Houston Police Department has terminated Officer Ashley Gonzalez as it conducts an internal review regarding allegations of a racist tirade aimed at “black people,” which circulated online. This was reported on Tuesday.
In the video, Gonzalez allegedly used several racial slurs, stating a strong dislike for “black people” and even threatening action if a “black person” was involved in a dispatch call. This video was shared by Grizzy’s Hood News.
Gonzalez, who joined the force in January 2024, appeared in the video wearing a black spaghetti strap top, speaking to the camera from the front seat of a car.
She reportedly stated, “I’m going to say over and over again that I hate [censored]. I hate all of you,” during the recording.
The officer recounted an off-duty incident where she claimed someone tried to steal from her, then used a racial slur after detaining that person.
“You don’t know how good it felt to say that [racial slur] out loud. It felt like I was back in the Marines,” Gonzalez mentioned, adding that it provided a sense of peace.
According to reports, she served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023, reaching the rank of Corporal, E3.
In her comments, she also belittled slavery, racism, and societal stereotypes.
Gonzalez acknowledged some parts of the video were not captured, expressing relief over the language used.
The Houston Police Officers Union condemned her remarks, stating it was deeply troubled by the video and emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated within the department.
Following the investigation, Gonzalez will remain an employee of the Houston Police Department until the final verdict. She will be required to surrender her badge and firearm and will undergo a home search as the inquiry continues.
The outcome could either lead to her reinstatement or an indefinite suspension without the chance of returning to duty, as mentioned in reports.
