A missile launched by Yemeni Houthi rebels targeted an area near the main terminal of an Israeli airport close to Tel Aviv, detailed reports indicated on Sunday morning.
This strike, which Israeli forces failed to intercept, temporarily halted operations at the airport. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of fatalities, according to various sources.
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) reported that sirens sounded throughout the area due to “projectile launches from Yemen.” An investigation is underway regarding why the missile interception failed.
Despite several attempts to intercept the Houthis’ missiles, they impacted near Ben Gurion International Airport, as reported by outlets covering the incident.
Israeli media noted that the missile strike resulted in injuries to eight individuals.
Images circulating online captured the moment the missile landed in a grassy part of the airport premises.
While operations continued as planned, the airport did suspend flights for about an hour, according to an official statement.
In a televised address, military spokesman Yahya Sarie emphasized that the strike served as a warning, indicating the airport was “not safe for air travel,” with the Houthis claiming responsibility.
Following the incident, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a meeting with his security ministers. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the IDF would respond appropriately.
Katz remarked, “Anyone who harms us will face seven times the harm in return,” in statements to various news outlets.
