Authorities say the former Florida Middle School teacher is accused of having sexual relations with former students.
Erica Lynn Mattson, 36, was arrested Thursday. She was booked at Bay City Jail and charged with felony charges of an authority figure engaged in sexual conduct with a student, according to a police report obtained by Blaze News.
“The victim was unable to accurately advise how many times the two were engaged in sexual activity while still enrolled in school, but advised that it happened many times before graduating.”
Mattson was released after posting a $25,000 bond on Friday and was ordered not to contact the victim.
People Magazine Mattson said he was a middle school teacher at Kaleidoscope Discovery School in Panama City several years before his sexual relationship. The student reportedly was 18 years old at the time of the sexual relationship and attended a high school housed in the same building as the middle school.
Citing the arrest warrant, Panama City News Herald It was said that the illegal relationship began when a student noticed that the teacher was crying in her classroom, so he approached her and approached her to comfort her.
The pair reportedly began sending messages to each other on Facebook. The victim’s suspect quickly developed into a sexual relationship while he was still a student, according to the arrest affidavit.
The student said he and Mattson went to the cinema but “we said they said, “I never got in,” and they said, “I was not allowed inside,” the affidavit said.
The suspect told the officer that he and the teacher had started a “sexual and romantic relationship” in May 2023.
The student reportedly told investigators he went to Mattson’s house to engage in sexual intercourse.
“The victim was unable to accurately advise how many times the two were engaged in sexual activities while still enrolled in school, but advised that it happened many times before graduating,” the affidavit states.
The student said, “I provided investigators with a photo of myself with Mattson, including a photo of the victim’s shirtless. [Mattson] According to the affidavit, he embraces the image of a pair “kissing” him.
According to a police report obtained, a detective investigating another case discovered alleged sexual scandals between a teacher and a student.
“While investigating another case, I noted that 2420 Jenks Avenue, a former teacher at Kaleidoscope School, could have had inappropriate sexual relations with students while enrolled at school,” a detective from the Panama City Police Department wrote.
According to court records, Mattson represents himself in the case.
Mattson is scheduled to return to court on May 15th.
