How Donald Trump’s victory could directly affect the New York Jets

Donald Trump stopped owning professional football teams nearly 40 years ago, but one of them still has his fingerprints on it.

There is a real possibility that the New York Jets will be directly affected after winning the 2024 election.

That's because its owner, Woody Johnson, could return to his role as President Trump's ambassador to the United Kingdom.

CBS Sports reports that the Jets are preparing for just that situation. According to Sportsnet New York, some within the organization expect Johnson to work with Trump again.

During a conference call to discuss the firing of manager Robert Saleh, Johnson was referred to as “Ambassador Johnson” by a Jets spokesperson.

Johnson left the Jets to work for Trump in January 2017, handing full control of the team to his younger brother Chris.

The Jets made some questionable moves during Chriss' tenure as manager. Chriss fired former general manager Mike Maccagnan in 2019 just weeks after the NFL Draft.

Chriss then hired Joe Douglas, who hired Saleh to replace Adam Gase as the team's head coach. Saleh's hiring came days before President Biden took office.

But Woody fired Saleh five games into the season after the Jets started 2-3. They lost their first three games after Saleh was fired, but they returned to the win column against the Houston Texans on October 31st.

There was speculation that Johnson had fired Saleh after his team lost in London.
