How LeBron James celebrated after Bronny got drafted by Lakers

LeBron James was a proud father after his son, Bronny, was selected by the Lakers on Thursday afternoon.

The superstar couldn’t help but feel “very emotional” at the moment his son was selected by an NBA team. ESPN reported.

While the second round of the NBA Draft was taking place, the James family gathered for an intimate dinner in New York City, which was attended by James’ mother, Gloria, his wife Savannah’s parents, and some of Bronny’s close friends.

James led everyone in a champagne toast to celebrate the occasion.

He also took to Instagram, captioning a photo post of himself and his son, “LEGACY!!!!!!”

Bronny James went undrafted in the first round of the draft the night before at Barclays Center, but was selected by the Lakers with the 55th overall pick by Los Angeles.

The Lakers, of course, are the team Bronny’s father currently plays for, and he has until 5 p.m. Saturday to opt in to the final year of his contract, guaranteeing him at least one season in the NBA with his son.

ESPN reports that the Lakers are willing to offer the older James brother a contract extension of up to three years and $162 million in an effort to keep him in Hollywood.

“There’s never been a father and son in the history of the NBA playing together on an NBA court, and that seems like something magical,” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said. “We know and we have to respect LeBron’s decision to opt out… but if he were to remain with us next season, NBA history could be made, and NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform.”

Bronny played one season of college basketball at the University of Southern California, where he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game before moving on to the NBA.

Bronny made headlines around the world last summer when he suffered cardiac arrest during a practice at the University of Southern California.

He was sidelined for about five months before making his USC debut on Dec. 10 against Long Beach State.
