For years, liberal think tanks and media figures have scoffed at the mere suggestion that this country is home to many dangerous illegal immigrants, absurdly arguing that those who cross the border illegally are hardworking people who love their families and commit crimes at much lower rates than Native Americans. New reports A shocking revelation from Fox45 Baltimore about one county’s shocking number of illegal immigrant child sex offenders raises the question: How bad is the illegal immigrant sex offender problem nationwide?
In recent months, there have been numerous high-profile rapes and murders committed by undocumented immigrants, and a new report from Baltimore County provides concrete data to back up the anecdotal evidence that sex crimes committed by undocumented immigrants are widespread.
Child rape is one of the most heinous crimes imaginable, but when committed by undeserving intruders into this world, it is also one of the most avoidable.
According to public records obtained by Fox45, Baltimore County state prosecutors filed 99 child sex crime cases between Jan. 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024. Shockingly, nine of the defendants were illegal immigrants from Central American countries — a high number for such a short period of time.
The counties surrounding Maryland and Virginia’s capital cities are hotbeds of criminal activity from Central America, but Baltimore County does not have a large population of illegal immigrants from Central America compared to Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. It is no coincidence that in a county of over 800,000 people, the nine defendants are illegal immigrants from just a few countries.
While there is no uniform national data to determine exact figures, it is clear that child sexual assaults are a significant problem among some segments of undocumented Central American immigrants. 2019 Report The study, which covers just 30 percent of North Carolina’s counties, found that over an 18-month period from 2018 to 2019, more than 331 undocumented immigrants were charged with 1,172 cases of child rape or sexual assault. Fiscal Year 2018 The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency alone arrested illegal immigrants charged with 6,888 sex crimes, 5,350 sexual assaults, and 1,739 “commercialized sexual assaults.”
At a January 2020 press conference at ICE New York headquarters, then-ICE Director Matt Albence released a tally of ICE detentions that were denied in the city in fiscal year 2019. Director Albence reported that of the criminals targeted by these detentions, 17,873 were convicted and an additional 6,500 faced criminal charges. This included 200 murders, over 500 robberies, over 1,000 sex offenses, over 1,000 weapons offenses, over 3,500 assaults, and over 1,500 drunk driving offenses. This data is for one city over a one-year period and only represents those for which ICE was able to apply for detention.
Due to poor enforcement of existing laws, 7.4 million illegal immigrants They are on ICE’s “undetained list,” but most likely have criminal histories in addition to immigration violations. 38,500 Their current detention means that millions of intruders and sex offenders, including gang members and violent criminals, are effectively being given amnesty. How many more child sex offenders are needlessly walking free?
ICE has only 6,000 agents and, without significant support from state and local law enforcement, cannot identify and deport all aliens who commit crimes. Republican-leaning states need the power to deport criminal aliens the first time they are arrested, so that citizens do not bear the burden of recidivism. At the very least, states should impose tougher sentencing measures for crimes committed by illegal immigrants. But in Democratic-leaning jurisdictions like Baltimore County, judges prefer more lenient sentences.
Fox 45 covers the case of Luis Portillo Enriquez, who was convicted of repeatedly raping a 14-year-old girl. His crimes were completely avoidable. Portillo Enriquez was arrested four times for drunk driving or driving with a suspended license, but was not sentenced because he failed to appear in court for the fourth arrest. He received a one-year prison sentence. Paused Verdict. Madness.
Every Republican-controlled state should enact laws requiring police to check immigration status for driving infractions and mandate voluntary deportation or increased penalties for undocumented immigrants.
In Maryland, authorities did the opposite: After Portillo-Enriquez was sentenced to 25 years in prison for serial rape, Baltimore County Circuit Judge Robert Cahill commuted his sentence to just 18 months. Cahill also spared another illegal immigrant, Jose Mejia, who was arrested on child sex charges, from prison, allowing him to remain in the state.
Child rape is one of the most heinous crimes imaginable, but when committed by undeserving interlopers in this country, it is also one of the most avoidable because they tend to be repeat offenders and could be deported. How many more violent sexual predators will remain in this country indefinitely because Republicans refuse to settle on this vital issue?
