Right now in America, women’s health care and right to control their own bodies are under attack as Republican politicians across the country do everything they can to ban abortion and suppress basic reproductive freedoms.
Disastrous Supreme Court decision Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health OrganizationThe bill that stripped away the constitutional right to abortion was passed just two years ago. Today, More than one third Seventy percent of American women of reproductive age live in states that criminalize abortion and deny women access to basic reproductive health care.
Let’s be clear: abortion is medical care, a common and safe medical procedure and a basic human right. Millions of women around the world have abortions. 21 states Women who are forced to live under Republican legislation that allows politicians to make very personal decisions that women should make for themselves in consultation with their doctors.
Every woman in America should have the freedom to decide when and how to get pregnant — that should be uncontroversial — but every day Republican policies reveal more and more horrifying truths about what it would mean for abortion — a medical treatment — to be severely restricted or banned outright.
- Texas woman Kate Cox was hoping to have a third child when she found out her unborn child had a horrific, life-threatening condition. Cox and her doctor made the deeply personal decision to terminate the pregnancy for her health and safety, and to protect her ability to have future children. But she was forced to leave the state to access basic medical care after a right-wing Texas Supreme Court justice with no medical expertise refused to grant her a medical exception under the state’s strict six-week abortion ban.
- A Florida woman has been released from the hospital after being told she is not in immediate danger. Half the blood in her body.
- Louisiana women Get treatment in New York She was refused an abortion after learning that the fetus would not survive due to a condition that prevented the skull from developing.
- Idaho women Travel to Oregon After learning that her unborn baby had developmental problems and could develop a life-threatening condition if she was forced to continue the pregnancy.
- 10-year-old girl raped in Ohio Travel to Indiana After she was denied an abortion in her home state, the Indiana attorney general targeted her health care provider.
These are some of the most horrific and heartbreaking stories we’ve seen, but no woman should be forced to carry a pregnancy against her will. Abortion should be a safe, accessible medical procedure available to all women, regardless of income or zip code.
“We cannot allow Republicans to ignore the harm their policies are causing, which is why we have convened the Senate Health Committee.” Hearing To expose how the Republican Party’s attacks on women’s freedoms and abortion bans have created a medical nightmare across America. We will not tolerate the Republican Party’s cruel policies and astonishing hypocrisy on this issue.
If Republicans truly believed in small government and freedom, they would not advocate federal and state governments mandating what women can and cannot do with their bodies, depriving them of their fundamental right to choose.
And if Republicans truly believed in family values, they would join Democrats in wanting to make health care, child care, and a minimum wage universal rights for all Americans. They would also join in guaranteeing paid family and medical leave for all, just as nearly every major country on Earth did decades ago.
On the contrary, Republicans in Washington oppose all of these policies while actively endangering women’s ability to have families by forcing them to continue pregnancies when they are unsafe. Banning abortion is not only terrible public policy, it is also immoral. Forcing women to continue unwanted pregnancies goes directly against family values.
And abortion bans impose a much greater burden on working-class Americans who are less likely to have access to the funds, time off work, child care, transportation, and other resources needed to travel long distances for abortion care. Thus, abortion bans are a further attack on working-class Americans.
Stop messing around.
When it comes to women’s rights, it is unacceptable for Republicans to take us back. We must move forward. We cannot allow the Dobbs decision to stand.
We must restore women’s basic and fundamental right to control their own bodies. Women’s Health Protection Act Ensuring that all women in America have the right to access the reproductive health care they need, including abortion care.
Congress must restore abortion rights nationwide. Let’s be frank about how a second Donald Trump administration could affect reproductive health care in America. Trump could unilaterally restrict abortion nationwide, take away access to safe medication abortions, restrict birth control, and worse.
Democrats understand that abortion is health care and that health care should be a human right for all, not a privilege for the few, while Republicans fight to force women to continue their pregnancies regardless of their circumstances.
Make no mistake. With pro-abortion majorities in the House and Senate and Joe Biden in the White House, Democrats will restore and protect the right to an abortion for every woman in America. Donald Trump and the Republicans will stop at nothing to enact a nationwide anti-abortion law.
The difference is clear and the stakes couldn’t be higher: Americans must make their voices and their votes heard.
