Winter Olympics Ready to Open in Milan

The competition officially kicked off at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Wednesday, but the opening ceremony is set for later today.

This grand event takes place at Milan’s iconic San Siro Stadium, which has stood for a century. Marco Baric, a seasoned creative director who has orchestrated 16 Olympic ceremonies, is leading the design for this year’s ceremony.

When is the Opening Ceremony?

The ceremony will air on NBC at 1:40 PM ET on February 6th and is expected to run for about three hours.

How to Watch the Ceremony

If cable isn’t your thing, there are live TV streaming services available. One affordable choice is Sling TV, which offers NBC in its Select plan starting at $19.99 per month. With the Olympics ending on February 22nd, a one-month subscription could let you catch all the events.

The Winter Games will also be available on Peacock, NBC’s streaming home, providing extensive live coverage for a monthly fee. There are options both with and without ads.

Highlights of the Ceremony

This ceremony will have an interesting twist: it culminates with the lighting of two Olympic torches—one in Milan and another in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Make sure to catch Team USA’s arrival as well!

Performers at the Event

Mariah Carey, shifting from her holiday reign, will perform at the opening alongside other Grammy winners like Andrea Bocelli and Laura Pausini. Joining them will be Sabrina Impacciatore from “The Paper” and “White Lotus” and renowned pianist Lang Lang.

Team USA in the Parade

Traditionally, Greece leads the nations in the parade, followed by others in alphabetical order. Italy, as the host, will appear last, while the U.S. will be third to last.

Speed skater Erin Jackson and bobsledder Frank Del Duca were selected as flag bearers for Team USA. The entire team will don uniforms by Ralph Lauren, which fans can also purchase.

Closing Ceremony Details

The Olympics will wrap up on February 22nd at 3 PM ET.
