Just over a week after the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Finals, 58 young players will be selected tonight to represent the next generation of players in the 2024 NBA Draft.
For the first time since the draft changed from three to seven rounds to two, the NBA Draft will be held over two nights, tonight, June 26th, and tomorrow, June 27th.
This year’s draft has 58 picks instead of the usual 60. (Technically, two per team, but trades can complicate things.) The Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns were forced to give up second-round picks after violating the NBA’s anti-tampering rules during free agency.
Among the names being mentioned as potential top picks tonight are Alexandre Sarr (France), Zachary Lisacher (France) and Donovan Clingan (University of Connecticut), but the one that has everyone’s attention is Bronny James. LeBron James’ son is eligible for tonight’s draft, and while James’ father has said he would “do anything” to play in the NBA with his son after 2022, recent reports suggest he has now “dropped” the idea.
