HS stabbing caught on video: Male, 15, uses knife against fellow student, 16; adult walks past fight, appears to take photo

The 15-year-old student stabbed another student (16) during a fight at a high school in the Washington, D.C. area on Wednesday. And the video on the fight cell phone was a man walking past the argument, apparently taking the photo.

The fight began around 9:40am between three students at West Potomac High School in Fairfax County, authorities. He told WJLA-TV.

“Why does the teacher just stare and then leave?”

The video shows a third student with a dark backpack trying to intervene, but the student wearing a red t-shirt also punches him and starts backing him up to another wall.

So, the video shows the student wearing a black t-shirt, and it appears that the student approaches the student wearing a red t-shirt and stabs him with a knife.

The 16-year-old was rushed to the hospital with injuries described as life-threatening, but the WJLA said, but Fairfax County police said the severity of the student’s injuries had been steadily downgraded several hours later.

The suspect, a 15-year-old male suspect, has been detained and charged with malicious injuries, WTTG said officials know the suspect and the victim.

The 15 third student, also not injured and are not expected to be charged, but he was questioned, but the report states.

The knife used in the stab wound has been found and an investigation is ongoing, police told WJLA.

How about the adults you saw in the video?

In another story, WJLA-TV reported The video on that fight phone appeared to show an adult walking during an argument without intervention.

“When they were fighting, there was a teacher there, but he just walked,” the sophomore told the station. “Why does the teacher just stare and then leave?”

Additionally, the station said it appeared that the adults would take photos of the argument before they left. The WJLA said it is not clear whether the adults ultimately went to get help.

“The child was beaten on the floor,” Shelley Arnordi, whose daughter is a senior at the school, told the station. “I know he didn’t know how serious he was, but it’s impossible to imagine it’s okay.”

Michelle Reed, the Fairfax County Public Schools superintendent, told WJLA about the adults seen in the video.

Weapon detectors are installed

The day after the stab wound, a weapon detector was installed at West Potomac High School, the station said.

WJLA said pilot security programs are in place and several district schools are gradually rolling out, but authorities said the stab wounds accelerated the timeline in West Potomac.
