HSBC Names Jason Henderson Interim CEO for US Operations

HSBC’s US CEO Lisa McGeough Resigns

Lisa McGeough has announced her resignation as the US president and CEO of HSBC, indicating a desire to explore new opportunities outside the bank. This news was shared on August 29, with the announcement filed with the Securities and Trade Commission.

HSBC expressed gratitude for McGeough’s contributions since she joined in 2021, wishing her well on her new path.

Following her departure, Jason Henderson, currently the Deputy Secretary of Banking in the US, has stepped in as the interim CEO and head of US banking, according to the filing. The bank noted that Henderson brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career across the US, UK, and Canada.

HSBC highlighted the importance of the US market within its global framework, emphasizing its central role in the bank’s growth strategy.

McGeough’s appointment as president and CEO was officially announced on January 6, with her starting date being January 1. During her tenure, she was responsible for overseeing all regional operations and expanding the bank’s newly integrated wholesale banking services in North America.

With 35 years in the banking sector, McGeough had a background in global banking coverage before joining HSBC.

Looking ahead, HSBC plans to implement a streamlined organizational structure beginning January 1, 2024. This change is intended to enhance decision-making processes and reduce redundancies.

The reorganization will split the bank into four main units: Hong Kong, the UK, corporate and facility banking, and international wealth and premier banking. As part of this restructuring, the current 18-member executive committee will be replaced by a new, smaller 12-member steering committee.

Georges Elhedery, the newly appointed CEO, noted in an October press release that this new structure is designed to create a more dynamic and agile organization while continuing to focus on the bank’s strategic priorities.
