The Housing and Urban Development Agency (HUD) has announced an extension of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) single-family home seizure moratorium in areas affected by the devastating Los Angeles County wildfires.
Created by HUD Secretary Scott Turner announcement Moratorium will be extended until 90 days While patrolling the disaster zone on Thursday.
“It is heartbreaking to witness the devastation caused by the horrific wildfires in the surrounding areas of Altadena and Los Angeles County and the heavy casualties of this tragedy to individuals, families and communities,” Turner said. “Ensuring that our neighbors can build or rebuild the future, including disaster attacks, is a central part of HUD's mission and will continue to provide help in times of struggle.”
The moratorium, originally scheduled to expire on April 8, said it could help with more than 100,000 FHA insurance mortgages in Los Angeles County's Presidential Major Disaster Area (PDMDA).
The new extension brings an end date to July 7th.
“The expansion of the HUD foreclosure moratorium is a lifeline for wildfire survivors in Los Angeles County and faces enormous challenges,” said Los Angeles County Superintendent Kathryn Berger. “We appreciate Secretary Turner's leadership and his commitment to ensuring that families affected by these devastating fires have the time and support they need to recover. This serious relief will help us stabilize our community as we work together to rebuild and heal.”
Turner spoke with residents of Parisades in the Pacific Ocean, one of Los Angeles' most devastated areas.
The secretary also visited Los Angeles Dream Center, a Christian organization that addresses the homelessness, and attended services.
