Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman are joining forces in a musical film about a husband and wife that create a Neil Diamond tribute band.
“Song Sung Blue” is a musical film that will be written and directed by filmmaker Craig Brewer, and will largely draw from the 2008 documentary of the same name by Greg Kohs, according to a Focus Features announcement. The Hollywood duo will star in the roles of Claire and Mike Sardina, a real-life married couple from Milwaukee who established the band, Lightning & Thunder.

“Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams,” a synopsis for the movie read.

Jackman and Hudson will be in good company for this production. They’ll be joined by Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir and Hudson Hilbert Hensley, according to Focus Features
Universal Pictures International has picked up international distribution rights for the film, which is in development courtesy of Focus Features. Brewer is producing along with John Davis and John Fox on behalf of Davis Entertainment.

Jackman updated his Instagram Story on Oct. 14 to include a promotion for the production, while Hudson did the same and wrote, “Here we gooo … ” in the caption of her post, according to People. (RELATED: Hugh Jackman Admitted To Doing Something Very Unique To Get Fit For ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’)
Hudson has both acting and singing experience, and Jackman is no stranger to musicals, either on the big screen or on the live stage. He previously starred in films such as “The Greatest Showman,” “Les Misérables” and a number of Broadway productions including his most recent, “The Music Man.”
