New owners of Colorado homes I was shocked to discover Police said a severed human head and hand were placed in a freezer while cleaning the premises.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said it was called to a home on Pinyon Avenue in Grand Junction on Friday after the new owner reported finding human remains.
Sam Troster, a woman who lives across the street from the house, told KUSA-TV that she began filming the incident when she realized authorities were investigating in protective gear.
Troster said the previous owner was a man who was caring for his elderly mother.
“That white hazmat-like suit was the first thing that caught my eye,” she explained. “That's what surprised me the most.”
She went on to say that the previous owner left early that morning and the new owner arrived later that day.
“It turned out that the new owners of the house had posted online that they wanted to sell the large amount of rubbish, scrap metal and reusable items they had left behind, and it turned out that the deep freezer was up for sale.” ” she continued.
She said people came from her home asking to use the bathroom and were told that a head had fallen out of a black plastic bag that was in the freezer. It was reportedly covered in frozen meat packages.
Officials said no other body parts were found in the home.
“I feel so bad,” Troster added. “You don't want to be a family losing a loved one right now. That would be heartbreaking.”
The sheriff's office said it will take time to determine the identity of the person whose body was found.
“These types of tests take a significant amount of time and we ask for the public's patience as the investigation continues,” police said in a press release.
They added that the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
