Hundreds of protesters arrested at Columbia as anti-Israel group calls for ‘support’ outside NYPD headquarters

Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters were arrested at Columbia University on Tuesday night. One of the groups behind the demonstration called on supporters to rally outside 1 Police Square.

Police said 230 people were arrested after police raided illegally occupied campus buildings at Columbia University.

There were about 300 total arrests between the Columbia University and State University of New York campuses Tuesday night, law enforcement added.

Mayor Eric Adams said Wednesday that police are currently processing the arrest to “distinguish who is actually a student and who is not supposed to be on the premises.”

On Wednesday morning, the New York State Gaza Solidarity Encampment group called on protesters to gather outside Police Square No. 1 in support of the 200 people said to remain in the prison.

Those in detention were “violently arrested and brutalized for opposing genocide.” the group claimed on Instagram.
