Hungary's Prime Minister Orban seeks to employ Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt

During a meeting at the White House, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán jokingly expressed his interest in hiring press secretary Caroline Levitt, who immediately accused the media of spreading “fake news” regarding the rising prices in the U.S.

President Trump chimed in, saying, “Caroline, the prime minister wants you to work for him in Hungary,” in response to Orbán’s light-hearted request.

This interaction took place after a cabinet meeting where Trump and Orbán were discussing issues surrounding Hungarian energy and trade. As the meeting wrapped up, reporters began to question Trump about concerns over affordability, with one even reminding him that he had previously stated he didn’t want to address that topic.

Trump replied, “We talked about it. When do I not want to talk about it? I talk about it all the time. We’re so much better than Biden and all of them right now.” He called out for Levitt, who then joined the meeting.

“They said, ‘Oh, we don’t want to talk about affordability.’ But the reason I don’t want to is that we all know it’s much cheaper under Trump than it was under Sleepy Joe Biden,” he asserted, adding that prices have declined significantly.

Upon her arrival, Levitt wasted no time in criticizing the media’s economic reports. She noted, “It’s unfortunate that the reporters in this room refused to address what you just said, which is that we’ve inherited the worst inflation crisis in modern American history.” She emphasized that the whole government is working towards resolving this challenge quickly, highlighting efforts like regulatory cuts and tax relief.

Levitt made a case for the administration’s efforts to improve affordability for American citizens, saying, “The American people elected this president to deliver on affordability. And that’s what he’s doing.” She criticized the media for failing to report on the previous administration’s economic failures and Trump’s ongoing efforts to tackle these issues.

Before Orbán suggested hiring Levitt, Trump accused the media of ignoring economic victories, calling it “fake news.” Trump humorously remarked to Orbán about Levitt’s possible move, stating, “You know, this is a very good decision. Please don’t leave us, Caroline.”

Orbán’s visit to the White House also included discussions about requesting an exemption for Hungary from U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia, amid ongoing tensions related to the Ukraine conflict.
