Hunter Biden Discusses His Pardon
WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden, the former eldest son, mentioned that his father pardoned him due to Donald Trump’s anticipated return to the presidency in November 2024. He suggested that under normal circumstances, without the backdrop of an ongoing appeals process, this pardon wouldn’t have happened.
In an interview released on journalist Tommy Christopher’s Substack, Hunter stated, “Donald Trump went and changed everything.” His assertion seems to stem from a belief that Trump’s political comeback altered the situation significantly. “I don’t think there’s a need to have much of an argument as to why that changed everything,” he added.
At 55, he was previously convicted for a firearm charge after admitting to evading $1.4 million in back taxes owed to the IRS. Interestingly, Hunter didn’t mention his presence during pardon discussions in his father’s last months in office.
He continued, “If President Trump had not won, my father would not have pardoned me.” He felt that in a different appellate scenario, he would have emerged victorious. This suggests a complicated view on his legal issues.
Hunter also discussed Trump’s potential “revenge tour” aimed at his father, indicating that it could place him and his family in a vulnerable position. He expressed gratitude for the pardon, recognizing it as something rare and special. “I realize how blessed I am,” he reflected. “I think we don’t need to dive too deep into why it was the right thing to do, at least from my father’s perspective.”
Last month, former White House chief of staff Jeff Zients disclosed that Hunter was “involved” in the pardon discussions, confirming he participated in several meetings related to the process, according to sources familiar with the testimony given to the House Oversight Committee.
