Hunter Biden pardon: Hopefully, the first of many

Who said politics can't be fun? It was hilarious to hear the angry cries that followed President Biden's pardon of his son Hunter.

In a display of hypocrisy that had journalist H.L. Mencken exclaiming with glee, Republicans accused Biden of a “miscarriage of justice.” And some Democrats accuse President Donald Trump himself of giving Biden an excuse to abuse the pardon process, as if it were necessary.

As usual, they're all off the mark. What's really shocking about Hunter Biden's pardon is not that Biden issued it, but that it exists on its own. What happens to the rest of the people Biden should pardon?

Biden is right. In his pardon statement he wrote: “No reasonable person considering the facts of Hunter's case could come to any other conclusion than that Hunter was chosen solely because he is my son. And that is wrong.” But Donald Hunter is not the only person who has been “appointed” by Trump. Much of his campaign was based on revenge and retribution, calling for his critics to be prosecuted and locked up.

This is a long list, starting at the top. In 2025, President Trump promised: “I will appoint a real special counsel to go after Joe Biden, the most corrupt president in the history of the United States.” In September 2024, President Trump told Vice President Kamala Harris, “should be impeached and prosecutedFor not neglecting to secure the borders. In August, he made this call.“Open military tribunal'' against former President Barack Obamahe is accused of treason.

Other politicians Trump has “named” include former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), newly sworn-in U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), and former Liz Cheney. This includes members of the House of Representatives (Republican, Wyoming). and members of the Special Committee on January 6th.

Trump also called on the legal community to prosecute those involved in criminal cases against him. New York Attorney General Letitia JamesManhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Manhattan Judge Arthur Engoron, and especially Special Counsel Jack Smith, whom President Trump called “.mentally abnormal person” and “career criminal“Who”should be kicked out of the country

Military leaders also did not flee. For more than three years, President Trump has attacked Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, accusing him of treason and saying, “The penalty for that should have been the death penalty!” Meanwhile, Trump whisperers Elon Musk and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) are renewing their calls for Dr. Anthony Fauci to: He is charged with “crimes against humanity.”

And that's just part of President Trump's list of targets for retaliation in the form of political prosecutions. And pay close attention: What do all these people have in common? They haven't committed any crime! They just dare to criticize Donald Trump, which is his greatest crime.

That's why President Biden should grant preemptive pardons to everyone Donald Trump named for retaliation. Whole list. President Trump could direct the Justice Department to indict them, not for crimes they committed, but for false crimes.

Will Biden be the first to issue a preemptive pardon? no way. Remember Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon? And in fact, the last president to grant a pre-emptive pardon was Donald Trump himself. In August 2017, he not only pardoned Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio for contempt of court;Other crimes for which he may be charged

If a pre-emptive pardon was good enough for Arpaio, it's good enough for Pelosi, Cheney, Fauci and everyone else.
