Hunter Biden's lawyer is hitting back at House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), accusing the top Republican of misleading him about Thursday's private testimony.
Following the deposition of Hunter's lawyer, Kevin Morris, which is part of a sweeping House Republican investigation into President Biden's family and past overseas dealings, Comer said the lawyer's financial support for his client issued a statement expressing concern. Comer said Morris' actions raised ethical concerns, noting that the lawyer lent Hunter millions of dollars.
“Shortly after meeting Hunter Biden at a 2019 Joe Biden campaign event, Kevin Morris began paying Hunter Biden's tax liability to protect then-presidential candidate Joe Biden from political liability. “Kevin Morris admitted to 'loaning' at least $5 million to the president's son,” Comer said. “These 'loans' will not have to be repaid until after the next presidential election, and the 'loans' may eventually be forgiven.”
“Kevin Morris has access to the Biden White House and has even spoken with President Biden because he is not financially burdening President Biden's son,” he added. “This follows a familiar pattern of Hunter Biden associates having access to Joe Biden himself. As we continue to do more interviews this month and next, we will uncover the full scope of corruption within President Biden and his family.” We will continue to track the facts to understand.”

Comer also presented excerpts from a deposition showing that Morris was introduced to Hunter Biden by Hollywood producer Lanette Phillips at a Biden campaign event in Los Angeles, California, in the winter of 2019. Published. Comer said Morris originated a loan to Hunter that doesn't have to be repaid until 2025 and purchased $1.5 million worth of art belonging to the president's son to ease the loan burden.
But in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital, Morris accused Comer of misinterpreting his testimony.
Hunter Biden's lawyers said they would “respond to a hearing or deposition” if the House panel issues a new subpoena.
“When I first met Hunter, he was climbing out of the depths of his life,” Morris said. “At the time, he had no income and his wife Melissa was five months pregnant. There wasn't.”
“I was concerned that hunters were not receiving the level of support they needed,” he continued. “I stepped in and have done so ever since. I've worked hard to build a life where I can help my family and friends in their time of need, and I did that with Hunter. ”

Mr Morris said he had lent money to Mr Hunter, but added that the two had consulted a lawyer about the deal and that he was “confident” that Mr Hunter would pay him back. Morris further denied that he believed the president or his administration would do anything in return for the loan, saying his “sole objective” was to help his friend, and that he was not prohibited from doing so. said.
And in a separate letter to Comer, Mr. Morris' attorney, Brian Sullivan, asked the commission to release the full text of his client's deposition.

“As I began today's interview with my client, Kevin Morris, I specifically pointed to the Republican Party's practice of leaking portions of witness statements rather than releasing the actual records. “This will allow the public to know the truth and not your often inaccurate statements and statements, which were false statements,” Sullivan wrote in a letter obtained by Fox News Digital. . “I specifically requested that this not be done using Mr. Morris' records, and that if this was done, that the entire record be made public.”

“Your staff and other committee staff have responded that Mr. Morris will be treated fairly,” Sullivan said. “And you did not treat Mr. Morris fairly and engaged in a routine practice of leaking witness statements partially and inaccurately, even two hours after we finished the transcribed interview with Mr. Morris. Before you know it, you have issued a selective press statement that takes Mr. Morris' statements out of context and is completely misleading.”

A spokesperson for the oversight committee told Fox News Digital that the committee will soon release the full transcript and confirm Comer's account of the deposition.
“The record will support Chairman Comer's reading of the interview with Kevin Morris,” a spokesperson said Friday. “The commission intends to release the records soon, but we have not obtained them from the court reporter at this time.”
