Hurricane Helene: True stories of hope, how we’ve been duped

The aftermath of Hurricane Helen is still in the news. Al Robertson And Zach Dasher had a front row seat to the devastation and is still dealing with it.

Robertson and his family were trapped in the Black Mountain area of North Carolina, while Dasher and his family were trapped in the Asheville area.

“Thanks to Elon Musk, we were able to get Starlink. They sent us a lot of Starlink. So we installed Starlink on the roof of a building, and we had 6,000 gas tanks outside. We had a Watt generator and about eight extension cords to make all of this happen,'' Dasher told the Robertsons. “I'm not ashamed.”

“Did you ever think that our culture would be to start a podcast thanking Elon Musk?” Jace Robertson joke. “We laugh and joke, but this was a very sobering moment in our history. Many people lost their lives and there are many horrific stories.”

Dasher can attest to the horrifying nature of this story.

“We don't know what the total number is. I mean, they're still dragging bodies out. Some of the bodies of these people are buried in 20 feet of mud, mudslides, rivers. “Some people never get recovered because of that. It's just scary,” he told the Robertson family.

There are countless stories of horror, but there are also many stories of hope.

“But let me tell you this: It's humbling to see God's people rushing out. That part has been beautiful. You know, in the midst of every storm, God's people… We were able to see it come to the region in a way that never had been possible before,” says Dasher.

But while Dasher was grateful for the good people who came to his rescue, he couldn't help but notice that there wasn't much help from the government.

“What is happening in our culture right now is that we are led to believe that government systems and programs will save us. But in catastrophes like this, the incompetence of government becomes clear. ,” Dasher explains.

“And you think, 'There's no way someone trained at the London School of Economics in an ivory tower in Washington, D.C., could know how to fix something in Swannanoa, North Carolina.'” he added.
