While attention is focused on Marie in California, another storm poses a significant threat to Hawaii.

Hurricane Lowell has rapidly intensified into a powerful Category 4 hurricane, boasting peak winds of 140 mph.

Currently, it is located south of Hilo, Hawaii, and is projected to make a sharp turn northward.

This trajectory could bring Lowell close to Hawaii as a major hurricane early next week, with Kauai being the island most at risk, alongside Niʻihau, which is also under close watch as the storm’s path shifts.

Officials are encouraging Hawaii residents to keep an eye on forecasts and prepare emergency supplies, as predictions for Lowell remain particularly uncertain.

Then there’s Hurricane Karina, another significant storm in the Pacific.

The Category 3 hurricane had sustained winds near 115 mph on Thursday and has looked quite impressive on satellite imagery.

However, Karina is likely to weaken swiftly this weekend while tracking to the north and east of Hawaii, staying well over the open ocean.
