Hurricanes vs Golden Knights Game 4 preview: Carolina needs a comeback to survive

Mitch Marner achieves NHL record with hat trick as Golden Knights take Game 3 in double overtime

Postseason Hockey Highlights

The hockey in this postseason has been absolutely thrilling. Many teams are battling hard to secure their places in the series. Sure, there have been a few series sweeps, which might be a bit of a letdown, but even those games offered some tightly contested moments that kept us engaged. Tonight marks Game 4 between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Hurricanes, oh boy, they must be feeling a bit frustrated. On one hand, they appear to have the grit to match up against anyone. On the other hand, they somehow seem to complicate things for themselves in this series. They’ve got a solid team, surely, but how many times can they keep clawing back into the series? Maybe they can do it every game, or perhaps this time it’s just not in the cards for them.

Credit where it’s due, though; they have an impressive resilience. Coming back from a 0-4 deficit to tie the game? That’s pretty remarkable, honestly. Words almost fail to describe how wild it is for a team to overcome that kind of gap. Yet, this makes it the second time that the Hurricanes have sabotaged the Golden Knights’ strong position. Despite their efforts and fighting spirit, they still haven’t managed to clinch a win, now trailing 2-1 in the series. They really need to capitalize on this opportunity—otherwise, their chances will look grim as the series progresses.

Even while being in the series, you can sense that the Golden Knights might be grappling with some uncertainties. They’ve shown dominance, leading in games by three goals on two separate occasions. Plus, one of their star players just pulled off a hat trick in record time, which is an achievement in itself. They’ve got contributions coming from all over; it’s kind of impressive, really.

That said, caution is still necessary. Sure, they won Game 3, and while they had a significant lead, they still ended up losing control of the game. Funny how that works, right? So, in this alternate reality where the game had played out differently, they might have finished with a 3-0 victory instead. Maintaining their lead in the series should be their focus, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing, clearly.

If I were in the Hurricanes’ coach’s shoes, I’d consider switching out the goaltender. Frederik Andersen had been stellar in earlier series, but he’s faced challenges in this one. Maybe it’s the relentless attack from the Knights, I don’t know. But it seems worth a try to bring in a fresh goalie, just to shake things up a bit.

Ultimately, goalies rarely turn things around in the heat of competition. Right now, it feels like they’re just outmatched. They seem to be a bit rattled, and hey, that’s understandable given the stakes. But you can’t help but wonder if they’re really in a position to make an impact, especially when the defense is feeling the pressure.
