Hyundai, Kia recall over 200K electric cars over power issues

Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. announced this week that they are recalling more than 200,000 electric vehicles due to a loss of drive power, which increases the risk of crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Hyundai's recall includes more than 145,000 vehicles, including select IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 EVs, as well as Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70, and Genesis G80 models.

NHTSA said Thursday's letter said the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) could be damaged, causing the 12-volt battery to stop charging and “potentially result in loss of drive power.”

Your dealer will update the ICCU software. The unit and fuses will also be inspected and parts replaced if necessary, NHTSA said. Owners will be notified on January 17, 2025.

Kia Motors is recalling more than 62,000 EV6 models for a similar issue. Hit Administration. Owners will be contacted by email after December 13th.

In June, Kia Motors recalled more than 460,000 Telluride SUVs due to fire hazards. A stuck seat knob can cause your vehicle's front power seat motor to overheat.

Last September, Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors recalled more than 3.4 million vehicles due to the risk of engine compartment fires, and NHTSA told owners to park their vehicles outdoors, away from buildings, until the recall repairs are completed. He recommended that.
