Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) said on Sunday in NBC's “publishing” that he opposed speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA)'s proposal that Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky should resign.
“Let's hear about what we just discussed with Speaker Johnson. Sen. Lindsey Graham said President Zelensky might need to resign to help this peace process move forward,” NBC's Kristen Welker told Lankford. “Senator, do you think President Zelensky needs to resign?”
Lankford said, “I don't agree. I'm not interested in calling for the resignation of other world leaders. When Chuck Schumer asked to remove Netanyahu, I didn't like it. When the other members of the Senate are asking to eliminate Zelensky, I don't like it. Frankly, I think it's now that Ukraine is caught up in chaos and is trying to find out who is the negotiator who brings problems to peace.”
“Based on what he witnessed in his oval office, Senator, are you worried that the US may be returning to Ukraine?” Welker said, “Based on what he witnessed in his elliptical office?”
Lankford said: Putin is a murderous KGB thug who kills his political enemies and is a dictator out there. And we saw it. We saw his attack. ”
