I Don't Mind Using A Little Crack Occasionally

Andy Dick’s Overdose Incident

Andy Dick recently spoke with TMZ following an apparent drug overdose on a Los Angeles street in broad daylight. He expressed relief at being safe and admitted to taking “crack” from a man he encountered sitting on the sidewalk. “I don’t mind having a little crack every once in a while,” he mentioned.

TMZ released video showing concerned friends and bystanders rushing to assist Dick, who was lying unresponsive on steps outside a building near Hollywood.

According to a witness, several friends, one of whom was live-streaming, hurried over to Dick to try to revive him. One friend was heard asking, “Andy, are you okay?”

He then turned to a bystander and yelled, “Wake up! Oh my god, hey! Call an ambulance now!” In the video, another bystander suggested, “Give him Narcan,” referring to the drug used to counteract opioid overdoses. The footage shows the friend administering a nasal spray to Dick.

A representative from the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that paramedics were summoned after reports of a 59-year-old man having an overdose, which matched Dick’s age.

In his conversation with TMZ, Dick explained he had used crack after “running away” from friends and finding a “depressed” man on the sidewalk. “There was a guy my age, and I felt sorry for him. He had kids, he was depressed… I thought, ‘I’ll sit with you.’ And he whipped — sorry, crack. And I was like, ‘Hey, maybe I need that,'” he elaborated.

He went on to say, “I wanted to see what he was up to, and besides, I don’t mind having a little crack every once in a while.” One of his friends shared that he decided to film the incident to document what was happening. Dick has been candid about his struggles with addiction and numerous attempts at sobriety.

In a past interview, he mentioned, “I had to stop drinking or I was going to die.” He recalled a very serious moment: “I was bleeding from my butt. I thought I was going to die.” Dick described drinking through various emotions and expressed that without substances, he often felt depressed and irritable.

He revealed he has tried to quit drinking 20 times by 2014, stating that he faced challenges in getting the help he needed at rehabilitation centers because many wouldn’t accept him.

Through the years, Dick has had several legal issues linked to his substance abuse. In 2021, he faced charges related to assault with a deadly weapon. The following year, he was detained multiple times on grounds including sexual assault and robbery.

In 2023, his troubles continued with an arrest for public intoxication and for failing to register as a sex offender after a jury found him guilty in a separate case involving an Uber driver, leading to a brief prison sentence.

The history of allegations against him stretches back nearly two decades.
