‘I don’t see what the big crime is’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher rejected criticism of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s recent commencement speech, saying he doesn’t see “what the big crime is.”

Comments Butker made this week in a commencement address at Benedictine College, a private Catholic school, sparked a firestorm on the political left.

During a panel discussion Friday night, Maher ridiculed critics for elevating him as the “biggest monster of all time.”

“Words cannot express how unlike me this man is,” Maher said during a panel discussion Friday.

“He’s religious. He loves marriage. He loves children…and he’s the biggest monster in history right now.”

“Again, I don’t really agree with this person’s opinion, but I don’t understand. He said…”Some of you go on to have successful careers in the world. ” Well, that seems pretty modern. “But I’d venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you’re bringing into the world.” I don’t know what the big crime is. yeah. Not really. ”

“And I think part of the problem that people on the left have is that a lot of people in this country are like this. As he says, some of you Some of you may go on to have successful careers, but many of you are excited about this alternative path that everyone used to have, and now that is not an option. ” Maher continued.

“And they feel like there’s so much weight placed on them, as if the only way to be a good person is to get an advanced degree from an institution of higher education like Harvard.”

The HBO host later pointed out a bit of irony in his selective outrage over Butker’s remarks.

“I think it’s very ironic that he’s saying, ‘In my world, women want to stay at home and just have kids,’ and college students and young people absolutely do this.” They feel it’s abhorrent, but they’re demonstrating for Hamas to make it law!” Maher shouted. “Stay home and have children is not just Hamas’ opinion. will force you [to do] that! “
