It's not very common for professional referees to admit that they made a wrong call, at least not to the ears of fans.
But on a bizarre Monday night in Philadelphia, referee Jenna Schroder told 76ers head coach Nick Nurse that it was a mistake to eject Andre Drummond and let him come back into the game. I heard it.
Drummond was sent to the locker room after Spurs star Victor Wembaneyama fell to the ground, and Schroder believed the Sixers player had something to do with the incident.
However, replays showed that Wenbanyama either jumped or fell off his feet.
After officials reviewed the play, Schroder went to the Sixers bench and apologized for his mistake.
“I messed up! [Wembanyama] Schroder can be heard saying to Nurse before apologizing to the rest of the bench.
Warning: Graphic language
Drummond received a hero's welcome He was coming back down the tunnel from the locker room after his foul call and ejection were overturned.
Crew chief Curtis Blair told pool reporters after the game that the decision was reversed because the referees “determined that Drummond stepping on Wenbanyama's foot was accidental contact.''
A technical foul against Wenbanyama on the flop was also rescinded as officials believed the Spurs big man tripped over Drummond's foot.
“She did. I was doing something else. I think she was saying it to someone else, but I heard her saying it. It's obvious That's when they hung up and she admitted it.” the nurse said When asked about the moment Schroeder acknowledged the confusion,
The night got even weirder later in the night when Joel Embiid yelled at Schroder for an offensive foul call and was ejected after receiving two quick technical fouls.
