Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Sunday on NBC's “Meet the Press” that she feared there would be “more violence” as a result of President Donald Trump's Jan. 6 pardon. Ta.
Host Kristen Welker said, “Your colleague, Sen. Tim Kaine, was saying about President Biden pardoning families. “It's hard to stand on high ground on the 6th of May and criticize Trump's pardons,” he says. do you agree with that? Will it be difficult to criticize President Trump's decision to issue these blanket pardons to prisoners on January 6th? ”
“He had the legal authority to do it,” Graham said. “But I fear you're going to get more violence. Please pardon the people who went into the Capitol and violently beat up police officers.” I think it was a mistake to put it away.
He added: If this continues, I think we will revisit the presidential pardon power if this continues because we would consider this an abuse of the pardon power. But I think you're wrong about forgiving violent people who beat up cops. ”
Welker said, “I really couldn't have asked for a better advocate for law enforcement in general.”
Graham said. “And there are a lot of people who supported President Trump. Law enforcement didn't like this. But he said it during the campaign, he's not fooling people. You know, Biden Trump said, “I'm going to forgive these people.” So the fact that he did it is no surprise. But I'm being consistent here. I don't like the idea of bailing out of prison or pardoning people who burn down cities and beat up cops, whether you're a Republican or a Democrat. ”
