MSNBC contributor Claire McCaskill told “Deadline” on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump “is having a hard time grasping the reality that our country elected him.”
McCaskill said, “You know, this is hard, but I’m having a hard time grasping the reality that our country elected this person in the first place. Then J-6 happened, and all the things that happened along with that. All the things that he did. Then he gets indicted and gets indicted and gets indicted and gets indicted again. Then he does this, which is very despicable and violates our Constitution. It’s like spitting in the face of someone who loves the rule of law. I think the people I served with, the Republican Party, are taking a grave risk.”
She continued: “Today I took a moment to read the list of the most heinous criminals of January 6th. The person who gave a police officer an electric shock to the neck; the person who gouged out a police officer’s eye. and whose bodies slammed police officers into marble statues, knocking them unconscious. They were the people he rallied and promised pardons to. To John Thune and John Cornyn, you in the Senate. I want to lead America, and I want to say that’s a big responsibility. The risk you’re taking by not speaking out against this man is a risk that history will take note of, because if he If you are willing to forgive people who have done such things, because in reality you know what he is capable of. They know. They lead the party out of the wilderness. Instead of escaping, he’s cringing at the thought of sacrificing it all. They’re crouching behind a tree. I said don’t look at me. Yeah, I support him. I don’t want to say I will, but if I have to, my party will be mad at me if I don’t. Stand up for your party, stand up for your values, stand up for your integrity and stand up to this man. Sho. It shouldn’t be this difficult.”
