Mother Responds to Controversial Bracelet Incident at Farmers Market
A mother from Wisconsin shared her immediate reaction when her daughter received a controversial bracelet during a visit to a farmers market, which sparked a heated discussion on a recent episode of “Faulkner Focus.”
As the 2024 presidential campaign heats up, Democrats have intensified their criticisms of former President Donald Trump. Vice President Kamala Harris recently labeled Trump as a serious threat to democracy, following a CNN town hall where she described him as “unstable” and previously referred to him as a “fascist.” This comes in the wake of two assassination attempts against Trump during the campaign. Katie Neubauer recounted her experience to host Harris Faulkner, explaining that her 8-year-old daughter was given the troubling bracelet by a volunteer at a booth operated by the Winnebago County Democratic Party.
Neubauer recounted, “We were at the farmers market, just chatting. My sister-in-law was nearby at a booth with free children’s books, and the kids were having a great time. Everything seemed fine until I noticed a man bent down to give a bracelet to one of the kids. I sensed something was off.”
Initially, Neubauer thought, “Well, this should be interesting.” But then a child brought the bracelet to her and her sister-in-law. “We looked down at it, and she said she didn’t know what it said. I read it and said, ‘It says dead.’ We were both shocked. I returned to the booth and told the man, ‘I don’t do hate speech here.’ Then I felt nauseous and had to step away.”
Neubauer later confronted the booth again after buying a few items. “I started going through the bracelets and found others with similar inappropriate messages, including the ‘8647’ reference,” she mentioned, prompting Faulkner to acknowledge that he was familiar with it.
The ‘8647’ meme had been circulated by former FBI Director James Comey, who previously posted a photo implying a desire to harm Trump, though he has since deleted the post.
Neubauer continued, “I asked the volunteer if any of these were appropriate for children, to which he replied, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ I questioned, ‘So why would I give them to my 8-year-old?'” She then indicated that they agreed to remove the bracelets from the booth.
Michelle Schmidt-Schultz, the manager of the Oshkosh Farmers Market, stated that the Winnebago County Democratic Party’s booth is now banned for the rest of the 2025 season, with future decisions to be made in a meeting next month. Faulkner asked Neubauer what led to the market’s decision to exclude the Democratic booth.
“On my way home, I called the market manager,” Neubauer explained. “We live right downtown, and the kids have a booth there every other week. I know the manager well; she’s lovely. She told me I wasn’t the only one who complained—there were about ten complaints that day regarding the booth.”
The Winnebago County Democratic Party has yet to respond to these recent events.
