Gov. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) was asked about his support for former President Donald Trump on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, and said he supports the Republican nomination.
Anchor Dana Bash said, “Last week we saw a former president win enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination, but you guys still haven’t supported him. Do you? ?”
DeWine said, “Well, I’ve always said I support Republican candidates. I’m a Republican. I certainly do. But my focus this year is going to be on a lot of local races. And it’s going to focus specifically on the U.S. Senate. It’s going to be a very close race in the fall, and we’re going to focus on that. So the polls clearly show that Trump is far ahead in the general election. So I think the focus will be on the Senate race in Ohio.”
Mr. Bash said, “We’re running out of time, but I just want to note: You said you support him, but you don’t support him?”
DeWine said: You see, my focus is once again on the Senate race. I think that is the most important race. Autumn is so close that we must win. ”
