On Tuesday, Democratic strategist James Carville expressed his support for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as a potential presidential candidate if she secures the nomination, during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat.”
Host Ali Melver remarked that Democrats seem to be finding their footing, referencing a recent poll that highlighted key figures within the party. He noted it was intriguing that Kamala Harris is polling quite low. He also questioned the reliability of future polling results, suggesting that the current year’s data might be misleading.
“It’s completely unhelpful,” Carville responded, arguing that the polls reflect everyone’s views, including Republicans, and specifically mentioned how they’re dominated by specific narratives. He dismissed these findings as not truly representative of the Democratic perspective and suggested they hold little weight.
He further commented, “I don’t see anything wrong with how the party is perceived right now. Yes, I lost an election, but I don’t place the blame on the party’s image. It is what it is.”
Melver then pointed out Carville’s previous criticisms regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s podcast influence, noting that he reiterated his support for her candidacy should she triumph in securing the nomination.
Carville concluded with, “If you win, you win. That’s how I see it. You’ve achieved the nomination, and that’s that.”
