Stephen A. Smith Weighs In on ICE Shooting Incident
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith commented that the ICE officer involved in the shooting of a protester in Minneapolis was “completely justified” in using lethal force, particularly after the vehicle nearly hit him. However, he suggested that the officer could have shot the tires instead.
Reports indicate the shooting took place on Wednesday morning.
The Department of Homeland Security stated, “Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were executing a focused operation when a crowd began to interfere. One of the aggressive individuals had a weapon in his vehicle and made an attempt to harm the law enforcement officers. This constitutes an act of domestic terrorism.”
Additionally, the Department noted that the ICE officer, fearing for his life and the safety of others, fired in self-defense. His actions were said to be a result of his training, aimed at protecting himself and his team. The person involved was struck and subsequently died.
Smith discussed the shooting during his show, Straight Shooter with Stephen A. He mentioned, “I’ve viewed that video multiple times. From a legal perspective regarding law enforcement, I don’t see grounds for prosecution. He acted with justification. But, on a humanitarian level, what could have been avoided? Maybe he could have just shot the tire. If that worked, it could have stopped her before things escalated. Even if that didn’t pan out, she didn’t have to speed towards him. She was caught in the road, and her decision to drive away without exiting the vehicle led to her tragic outcome.”
President Trump commented on the fatal incident involving the ICE agent, labeling the situation as “self-defense” and cautioning that “radical leftists” pose a threat to agents, as reported by Breitbart’s AWR Hawkins.
