Former Coach Criticizes ICE and Trump
Former Notre Dame women’s basketball head coach Muffet McGraw recently expressed her frustrations with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and President Donald Trump, deeming the current state of the country as a “crisis.”
In her statement on X, McGraw expressed that there are ongoing attacks on democracy, claiming that ICE has terrorized communities and committed serious offenses against citizens. She noted the perceived powerlessness of police and raised concerns about FBI complicity in these matters. While she mentioned the idea of calling in the National Guard, she remarked that those forces have also been misused.
“Our anger isn’t selective,” she stated, emphasizing the need for accountability for ICE’s actions. McGraw expressed hope that Congress and, specifically, the Republican Party would rise to the occasion to hold Trump accountable, suggesting that impeachment is necessary to restore the core values overshadowed by the current administration.
As she rallied for collective action, McGraw reflected on the desperate need for hope. “We need hope that Congress will rise to the challenge and fulfill its duties,” she insisted, urging unified efforts to reclaim democracy.
McGraw has been vocal against President Trump in various contexts, particularly highlighting the negative environment facing WNBA players. In a previous statement, she claimed that Trump has facilitated a culture of racism and misogyny, and encouraged her followers to support former Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.
