ICE Arrests Undocumented Immigrant for Attempting to Meet Minor

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended an undocumented immigrant who reportedly tried to arrange a meeting with a 13-year-old girl for sexual purposes after he had been released from police custody in Connecticut, a sanctuary state.

Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security commented, “Connecticut’s sanctuary politicians are allowing dangerous individuals like this to return to our communities, putting children at risk.”

The individual in question, Christian Espinosa-Sarango, hails from Ecuador and was taken into custody by ICE agents on February 13. He faced charges of sexual assault, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and attempting to entice a minor via computer in North Haven last December.

According to law enforcement, Espinosa-Sarango initiated contact with an undercover officer posing as the girl’s aunt, requesting a photo of the girl and expressing intentions to have sex with her.

He had arranged to meet the girl in a hotel room, but upon his arrival, police arrested him and charged him with crimes related to child sexual abuse.

On December 23, 2025, ICE agents sought to detain Espinosa-Sarango to prevent him from being released back into the community. However, due to Connecticut’s sanctuary policies, he was let go from prison without being handed over to ICE.

On February 13, during the arrest, Espinosa-Sarango reportedly attempted to flee and refused to lower his car window to evade capture.

McLaughlin emphasized the need for local law enforcement to assist in removing violent offenders from neighborhoods, stating, “Seven of the ten safest cities in the U.S. work with ICE. This situation illustrates how sanctuary policies can compromise public safety.” She added, “Thanks to our dedicated ICE officers, Espinosa-Sarango will not pose a threat to our streets again. Sanctuary politicians should stop permitting the release of dangerous criminals into our communities.”
