This weekend, representatives of President Donald Trump adopted a quieter approach to enforce the removal of many illegal immigrants from the U.S. labor market.
Surprise field operations pose challenges for well-funded pro-immigration groups, including leftists, corporations, and media, aiming to create a televised narrative that could influence swing voters.
In Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, ICE contacted undocumented truck drivers to renew their commercial licenses at local offices, resulting in the arrests of 13 individuals who complied.
According to reports, ICE confirmed the arrest of “13 illegal aliens hailing from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.” Notably, one immigrant was involved in an altercation with a local police officer, as stated by ICE.
In addition, Washington state saw ICE detain other immigrants who were attending appointments at federal offices.
Yet, the challenge remains extensive. Deporting about 10 million migrants is a massive logistical endeavor, compounded by strong opposition from various nations, well-funded advocacy groups, and resistant Democratic leaders. Currently, approximately 1,000 illegal immigrants enter the country daily, even as enforcement continues.
Legal immigrants are still being permitted to fill many jobs across the U.S.
“The best way, really the only way, is to rely on enforcement on the ground,” stated Rosemary Jenks, co-founder of the Immigration Accountability Project.
Her organization collaborated with several groups to devise strategies aimed at overcoming hurdles associated with deportation. One source of these challenges is the strong business interests tied to President Trump, which benefit considerably from wage suppression through both legalization and illegal immigration.
Jenks expressed admiration for the actions taken during Phase 1, explaining:
While Phase 1 focused on the “worst of the worst,” it’s now time to transition to Phase 2, which entails mass deportations of working migrants. We acknowledge the administration’s accomplishments and are hoping to offer ideas for improvement.
Despite ramping down on aggressive street sweeps, Stephen Miller and other aides at the White House continue utilizing governmental authority to facilitate immigrant removals. Recent reports highlighted that Miller is looking into strategies that would encourage illegal immigrants to self-deport, even asking immigration officials about how immigrants use credit cards for spending.
On Friday, Trump’s administration revealed its forthcoming plans in the 2027 Budget Request. This includes heightened scrutiny of the influx of temporary legal immigrants through various visa programs.
The budget aims to ensure that employers prove the unavailability of American workers before hiring foreign labor. This proposal is intended to protect U.S. workers’ rights, enhance border security, and maintain the integrity of the immigration system.
In Florida, law enforcement under Governor Ron DeSantis has begun detaining immigrants at construction sites.
Increasing arrests of illegal immigrants may push employers to prioritize hiring U.S. citizens at fair wages, as well as encourage the training of young Americans for roles typically filled by foreign workers.
