ICE Clarifies LA Mayor Karen Bass' Claims About Masked Officers

ICE Criticizes Mayor Bass Over Masked Agents

On Thursday, Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) took aim at Mayor Karen Bass regarding the use of masks by their agents during immigration operations. Bass recently revealed her plans to submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to uncover the identities of ICE agents involved in detaining undocumented immigrants in California.

In a clip from an MSNBC interview, Bass questioned, “Who are these masked men roaming our city and arresting people off the streets?” She expressed concerns about what she described as increased threats against families. In response, ICE remarked on social media that their agents are simply doing their jobs and enforcing immigration laws, while calling out Bass for seeking attention.

ICE’s official account emphasized that agents exist “to detain individuals who have violated immigration laws.” There’s a feeling, perhaps, that Bass is more interested in political theatrics than in addressing the real issues at hand.

Furthermore, recent statistics from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reveal a staggering 700% rise in assaults on ICE agents this year. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem noted an astonishing 830% increase in attacks compared to the same time last year.

Bass has a history of opposing federal immigration policy and has even launched legal actions against the Trump administration concerning ICE activities in Los Angeles. She was present during a controversial immigration raid in MacArthur Park on July 7, where government agents instructed reporters to vacate the area promptly.

Critics have also pointed out possible links between officials in the Bass administration and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), as recently reported by various sources. Additionally, Bass and her colleagues have faced scrutiny for the slow response to the reconstruction efforts following the devastating wildfires in California that destroyed numerous homes this past January.
