ICE confirms alarming details about the immigrant charged with murdering Georgia college student: ‘Released by the NYPD’

Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed Sunday that an immigrant suspected of killing a Georgia college student in New York City last fall was arrested and quickly released.

On Friday, police arrested Jose Ibarra, 26, a Venezuelan immigrant, and charged him with the murder of Laken Riley, 22, a nursing student at Augusta University. Riley was attacked Thursday while running on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. Police do not believe Ybarra knew Riley. Rather, he believes the attack was a “crime of opportunity.”

The shocking incident sparked national outrage and raised questions about whether it could have been prevented.

We now know that Ibarra was no stranger to law enforcement and immigration authorities.

ICE said in a statement: confirmed that U.S. Customs and Border Protection first arrested Ybarra on September 8, 2022, after he illegally entered the United States near El Paso. However, he was “released on parole for further proceedings.”

A year later, on September 14, 2023, New York City police arrested Ybarra and charged him with “acts causing injury to a child under 17 years of age and motor vehicle license violation.” Despite the nature of the charges, New York City, a “sanctuary city,” quickly released Ybarra onto the streets.

ICE said, “He was released by the NYPD prior to being placed in custody.”

Eventually, ICE’s Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations in Atlanta was able to apply to take Ybarra into custody, but only after he was arrested on suspicion of Riley’s murder.

Police charged Ybarra with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, interfering with a 911 call and concealing the death of another person.

Meanwhile, the brutal incident has brought increased attention to the border crisis and President Joe Biden’s failure to address it.

While searching for Ibarra, police found his brother, Diego Ibarra, who allegedly presented authorities with a fake green card. He was then arrested. It turns out that Diego Ibarra, who followed his brother into the United States, has already been arrested multiple times in the United States for drunk driving, shoplifting, failure to appear in court, etc., WSB TV. report.

“Because of Joe Biden’s inaction, every state is now a border state,” Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) said.
