Ice Cube's son talks about the Raiders choosing Ashton Jeanty over Shedeur Sanders

O’Shea Jackson’s NFL Thoughts

O’Shea Jackson, following in his father Ice Cube’s footsteps, isn’t particularly into Raiders fandom, but they both share similar feelings about Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft experience.

Ice Cube, a long-time Raiders supporter from when the team played in Los Angeles, contrasts with Jackson, who portrayed his dad in “Straight Outta Compton” as a Rams fan. Jackson, originally from Compton, noted his casting involved only playing portrayals of Raiders fans.

In the draft, it seemed like the Raiders could scoop up Sanders with their sixth overall pick, especially given Derek Carr’s retirement due to injuries.

However, Las Vegas chose a different direction, and in a twist, Sanders ended up going to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round. “I saw the path for him… I really hope for Chedur’s success,” Jackson shared during an event in New York. “Traditionally, that hasn’t been how things go with the Browns, but I think Chedur might just change that.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Sanders, Jackson remains optimistic. “My dad’s always optimistic,” he stated, adding that the Raiders had selected a different player, Ashton Jeanti, instead.

Reflecting on past drafts, Jackson recalled a moment: “Watching together, my dad was like, ‘If the Raiders pick up Darren McFadden, that’ll be something.’ They did pick him, and well, let’s just say things didn’t go as planned.” McFadden was a fourth overall pick in 2008, but struggled during his career, finishing with just one 1,000-yard rushing season over seven years.

Meanwhile, Jeanti is enjoying a standout college career, though he hasn’t managed to break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing records. It’s, um, an impressive feat nonetheless.
